I Was Almost A Crime Statistic

I nipped downtown to pick up my figure skating training session tix (that story coming later) and decided to pop into the Olympic Super Store at The Bay. As usual I was wearing my red mittens and was mobbed repeatedly, as I walked through the store, by people wanting to know where I found them. I eventually hid them in my bag. I was talking to an employee and she said yesterday a little elderly couple was swarmed by people who wanted their mittens. Seriously people, PLAY NICE!!!!! And FYI, the Super Store downtown is currently sold-out of the adult mittens.

  1. Getting people wanting your mittens is funny, too bad we are not allowed to wear them as games volunteers.

Anyways, this morning Job training was very informative. Athlete's Village will be a very busy place around the clock. It was good to hear that they will be rotating all volunteers to different stations throughout the shifts. It would be boring to be stuck in one place for your entire 10 hour shift!

I am so impressed with the organiztion of VANOC. I am a very anal person when it comes to organization and VANOC may be more anal than me! They have everything figured out and are able to explain it in very understandable ways to the thousands and thousands of volunteers.

I would be happy to answer any questions (the ones I can anyways...there are some secrets :)

Look forward to this evolving blog.

    Cheers,

    BC Todd

  2. Glad your training session went well! Can you give us an idea of the sort of things you'll be doing in the Athletes Village?

I think it's funny that there are some secrets. You could tell us but then you'd have to kill us right? LOL.

  3. Hi Marsillini,
I will be managing a team of "Hosts" at the Village. We will be working closely with the Security team at the points of entry for both Athletes, media, friends of athletes and of course the VIPs (sponsors, IOC family members and heads of state). We have to ensure the Athletes are "at home" in the village. For some athletes done competing they will want social and fun things to do...for those who are waiting to compete, they will want a quiet place to train, and prepare.

Event services has many secrets...maybe as the games approach I will be able share...

  5. BC Todd, my question is, will any of the events happening in the village be open to the public?

  6. Oh, yeah, and I was at the Bay on Friday and there were TONS of mittens so it's funny that they are all sold out now.

  7. Hi Keri and Marsillini,

Sorry to say that there is no public events at the village. As I am sure you can appreciate that in this day and age the Village is an attractive target for evil people. In fact, not even the media has complete access.

We will be the ensuring that all athletes have a place to get away from it all. Having said that, I know that the whole false creek area from the village gates to BC place will be hopping with activities. Not to mention both Granville and Robson closed to traffic, the live sites and all the national and corporate pavillions there will be plenty to do!

I will try to post answers to questions that may come up and let you all know how my adventure is going.

    Cheers,

    BC Todd
